Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone WI
Uffington, Baulking and Woolstone W.I. is a dynamic group
that offers a variety of activities for members to enjoy. We haven’t (yet?)
attempted a calendar, but we do have a go at most things.
At our monthly meetings, held on the 3rd Tuesday of each
month (except August), as well as meeting friends and making new ones, we
are generally entertained by a fascinating speaker. Recent talks have
included ones on wild life (one on Red Kites, another on Owls), history
(History Observed through Landscape), growing and using herbs, looking at
works of art, First Aid, a ‘granny’ sailing single-handed up The Gambia, the
work of local and national charities … the list of topics is always
growing. In addition, there are walks, craft afternoons, outings, lectures,
quizzes, workshops, campaigning on national issues, fund-raising activities
and parties.
Although the WI is an organisation for women, we don’t like
the men folk of the villages to feel left out so have at least one open
meeting each year when we hope many of them will join us. They are usually
included in theatre visits and other outings too.
UBW WI is a great group to belong to. For anyone interested
in finding out more, posters are regularly displayed on
Uffington.net, on
village notice boards and at The Post Office Stores, Uffington, or you can
telephone Tory Russ on 820052.
